Black Hills State men's basketball coach Paul Sather will succeed coaching legend Don Meyer at Northern State. The NCAA Division II school in Aberdeen made the announcement Friday. Sather has spent the past five seasons as the head coach at Black Hills State, an NAIA school in Spearfish.

Philadelphia University Men's basketball Coach Herb Magee, became the winningest NCAA coach in history on Feb. 23, was honored today by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter at a City Hall ceremony. "This is a personal achievement, and we're very proud of him as a city," said Nutter, who presented Magee with the city's Liberty Bell Award. "He's a hometown guy, and we love for a hometown guy to be successful."

The NCAA's all-time winningest men's basketball coach will be at Stonehill College taking part in the East Regional tonight. Herb Magee of Philadelphia University, who has 905 victories, surpassed Bobby Knight on the career list last month. Magee's Rams (25-7) will play Saint Anselm College (20-10) in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Div. 2 East Regional at Merkert Gym at 8:30 p.m. The winner faces either host Stonehill College or Felician College in the semifinal round on Sunday night.

On the first of March, the Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team saw its season end the same way it did in 2009, with a loss in the opening round of conference playoffs at Philadelphia University, the alma mater of Griffins coach Jesse Balcer. The screaming green surf and turf field at Legends Stadium has been cleared for spring takeoff as scholastic practices began Monday, March 1. In September 2008, Meyer was injured in a car accident that later resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee. Doctors then discovered he had an inoperable form of cancer. Meyer continued to coach despite his health problems, and in January 2009, he broke Bob Knight's record of 902 wins, coaching from the sidelines in a wheelchair.
